Today’s Message: “God with Us”
Matthew 1: 18-25 and Romans 1: 1-7
Introduction: The other day, I was in the store and turned around when someone called MOM. When we hear a familiar voice calling your name, do you turn around? How would you respond if an angel called you into action today? What is fulfillment of a promise mean to you? All these questions will help guide the reflection on this final Sunday of the Advent Season. Advent is a time to hope, love and forgiveness. Before I set the tone for this reflection on responding to life obediently, I want each person listening to think about praying for all the questions that we want to ask God about how His birth transforms the world. Take a moment to listen to scriptural readings from Romans 1: 1-7; now hear Matthew 1 from The Message. This is the Word of God for the people of God, Let us pray:
Prayer: Gracious Father we come to you this morning saying thank you for your mercy, love and grace. On this day we ask for a special blessing for families who are grieving from loss and sadness. Messiah, what is in a name? Help me to call upon you for guidance; call upon Jesus Christ for his undying love and call upon the Holy Spirit for wisdom. Move me behind the cross and allow only your words for your people to come forth. Cover us with your Spirit and open our ears so that we might receive your Holy Word. Gracious Lord, nurture us through your Word, teach us to accept the freedom, release us from fear and unforgiveness so that we may receive your Power. O’ Lord, let us know that your love is enough. Your name is enough to sustain us, help us to call upon you for everything. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
